kitty

kitty is a "cross-platform, fast, feature full, GPU based terminal emulator".

Why use kitty?

  • (in theory) faster than other terminal emulators because it relies on the GPU

  • better Unicode support than iTerm2/Terminal.app (emojis were often awkward to edit for me on iTerm2)

  • custom layouts without the need for tmux (see Cheat Sheet)

  • extensible via plugins (kittens)

  • configuration is in a file so no need to fiddle around menus when reinstalling or restoring a backup
